Utter Chaos....or is it Udder chaos?!

I am not sure why I decided to start a blog...guess I needed one more thing to do!!  All stay-at-home mothers, hired hands, and sorta self-employed ladies need just one more thing to do right!?  It could just be that I thought it would be fun to have a place to write down some of the funny things my kids say or do.
Yesterday was a big day on the Fletcher Ranch...ha ha...for those of you who know me, you know why that's funny!;)  We were going to gather and haul our pairs to grass.  Yes, if we were "real cowboys" we would drive them.  But, hey, we did that for Peterson's last week!  So, we got plenty of help to gather our crazy bunch of cows...we have some longhorns, some corrientes, even a few braunveigh(sp!?)...for the most part they are angus but we like to have some color!:)  So, we set out to gather them with a 5 and 6 yr old girl, a mom on a colt, and two cow dogs...thank goodness that wasn't all the help.  We had 4 actual cowboys along too!:)
It went great really.  I just have to laugh at myself once we get them pinned.  I spend the whole time telling the girls and the dogs what to do...Sydney and her horse Tom are usually there to just "hang out".    And then there is my young cowdog.  Who does great until we get to the corrals and then, well, I guess I just am not quite the dog trainer I need to be.  By the time they were loading the calves I had had enough of him getting in the road.  So, I finally get my hands on his collar and decide he would be better help if he was in the garage.  He did NOT agree we me...so, he bit me, and somehow I got two fingers tangled in he collar...which was quite crazy...I couldn't get loose, and was fairly scared he might bite again and he was getting rather short of breathe.  So, I hollered at the hubs who came to the rescue.  Thank goodness.  Ike, the cowdog(not to be confused w/ Hank), acted pretty sheepish the rest of the day.  I think we made up.  Guess I better read up on training dogs or...stick w/ horses!  Although I am not sure I have that one figured out either!!  All in all it was a fun morning, minus the bite, and I thought to myself, "I love my crazy life!".  Thank you Lord for my hubby, girls, cowdogs, longhorns, and my udderly crazy life!!

  2. Cool! I'm your first Follower!! :) It will be fun to get to read about the Nebraska Good Life I was so BLESSED to witness when we lived there. As you wrote, I could picture everything so vividly. It was fun to see the word "pairs" written about in this context. In fact, not many Californians would even know what you meant! I can't wait to read more...

Follow my blog so we can catch up and re-acquaint!!
