Yikes...what a crazy summer!

Wow...that's really all I can say...okay, that's not true.  I have lots to say...even more to say than I can on here...lol!:)  It truly has been a crazy summer.  I guess it didn't start out so bad but it sure seems to have gone south with each passing day.  Michael has seemed to have some crazy days...one day he started out nice and early due to the crazy heat.  First, he hit a deer.  Thankfully, if you hit them straight on when you have a huge grill guard you are good to go!:)  Second, he had a colt go end-over-end w/ him.  And thirdly, he had a mishap w/ a tractor that could have very easily killed him.  But, thank God it apparently wasn't his time to go!  He did have quite the fat lip from it for several weeks.  He sure kept his guardian angel very busy that day!  Then, just a few days later we were able to go rope at a friend's house.  To make a long story short, Michael tried to turn a calf back w/ a stick by reaching out and whacking it...which caused the calf to promplty fall over and...well, quit breathing.  I wish I had a video tape of it and everyone involved...I will never forget that night!!:)  Then one of my girls says, "I think the calf is breathing"...sure enough he was.  Pretty soon he sits up and Michael, Patrick, and the girls are on the ground real close to it...all of sudden it jumps up and heads straight for Jimi and Michael.  Jimi thinks the calf is trying to get her and lets out this maddening scream.  Which made the rest of us burst out in laughter!  The calf wasn't exactly walking straight and it sounds like it took a week or more for it to return to somewhat normal...oops!  Sorry about that Martin's!!

On a more serious note...we have had a long week!  Grandpa Jim was put in Callaway hospital on Sunday evening...we thought it was more of the same...that he needed to just have fluid drained off of his lungs so he could breathe.  But he was complaining of chest pains.  I guess they said his heart was checking out fine.  But by Tues. he was still having pains so they took him to Kearney for more tests.  They ended up doing surgery as soon as they figured it out.  They put one stint in and possibly more to come.  It was a scary night...not sure if he would make it.  He is doing good as of right now...I am so thankfully for all the prayers sent up on his behalf.  I believe he has a long road ahead of him.  I have been sooo blessed to grow up really close to both sets of my grandparents.  They have all been such a blessing to me.  I have so many wonderful memories w/ Grandpa Jim...and for those of you who know him...he is sooooo ornery!  But I never once doubted that he loved me....even in his grouchy moods...;).  Praying he heals quickly.

That really isn't even close to all that's happened this summer but it would probably be 500 pages if I tried to write it all down.  So this will do for now.  God is reminding me with each new day just how important it is to spend time in His word and to focus on the lasting, eternal things.  There are so many things in the world to get us sidetracked from what really matters.  I know I do that way too often.  Seriously...what were to matter if I were to die tomorrow?  First of all, my salvation...but also, what kind of legacy am I leaving for my children?  And have I told others about Him?  Have I loved and helped others...even my enemies?  Yikes...I have so much to learn and so much to work on.  I better quite for now.  Here's to hoping for a little smoother summer!!:)
